SOOP ACTING COMPANY
It was 1998, and Artistic Director Paul Romanello and his fellow actor friends were commiserating about the lack of opportunity “out there” and the desire to control the kind of work they would like to do. Once they recognized the need to create their own environment AND came up with all the reasons why it wouldn’t work, they finally decided to just jump in – hence the birth of Seat of Our Pants Theatre Company – aptly named since, more often than not, that’s what we seem to be flying by! It began, very simply, as a haven for serious artists on a professional track who want to do exemplary work and get the exposure they need in New York City. The company is committed to the individual, his or her craft and ultimately the business – all of which are essential to creating a career in this profession.
From its founding through the mid 2000’s, SOOP produced several original productions in NYC. After the advent of our educational arm, the SOOP Theatre Arts Program (STAR) and our decision to now include the historic Manor Club Theatre in Pelham Manor, NY as our “second home”, the professional arm took on the moniker SOOP Acting Company, in order to distinguish their now varied presence. Since 2014, the Acting Company has been proud to offer main stage productions that include industry guest artists, as well as our Theatre For Young Audience (TYA) holiday shows and our One Night Only! concert-style theatre events.
